MY STORY

Asia Cymone Smith always knew she wanted to be part of the sports world. Growing up in a proud Steelers household, she fell in love with watching football games with her dad every Sunday. That love led her to become a cheerleader, where she spent 12 years gaining a front-row perspective on the game.

Asia’s passion for sports fueled her competitive spirit. Her 12-year cheerleading career was highlighted by becoming a 2016 Cheerleading World Championship Finalist with the California All Stars Lady Bullets. But another unforgettable moment came in 2011 when her Pop Warner team won a national championship. Being interviewed by the local news sparked a realization of how powerful it was to share her story and connect with others. That excitement planted the seed for her future career in journalism.

Asia attended San Diego State University and the University of Florida, where she competed in the heptathlon at the Division I level. She became a Mountain West Pentathlon Champion, two-time Mountain West Team Champion, NCAA All-American, and a member of the historic Gators track and field program that won both the indoor and outdoor NCAA titles. Alongside athletics, she served as President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and earned recognition as a member of the National Honor Society and NCAA All-Academic Team.

In 2022, Asia began her career at ESPN as a production assistant. She stepped into her first on-air role at KSN News Wichita in 2023. Less than a year later, she was promoted to weekend sports anchor. During her time in Kansas, she covered high school rivalries, March Madness runs by Kansas and Kansas State, multiple Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl appearances, and the Kansas City Royals first playoff berth in nearly a decade.

Asia was crowned Miss Kansas USA in 2025. Through her title and work in broadcasting, she advocates for representation in sports media by mentoring young women using her platform, Girls Talk Game. She is also the author of There’s No One Like Me!, a children’s book inspired by her mother’s journey with vitiligo, written to help kids embrace confidence and individuality.

Asia is committed to telling meaningful stories and helping others see the value in their own.
